9.4.09 - Fall/Winter

bellissima

Sarah has her new Fall/Winter collection up and it looks incredible. Go check it out.

9.2.09 - Garbage

A comic I sketched out the other day. Click on the image above for the full page view.

8.23.09 - Scream Scram

Here is an illustration I worked up for the 10th annual Scream Scram 5K run or walk race held at Washington Park here in Denver. The image is going to be used on some marketing material and I think the pirate will be going on a shirt. It is a benefit race put on by the Scream Agency where people come out dressed in costumes, get the heart pumping and have an all around good time for a great cause. In the past 10 years they have raised over $35,000 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. I really enjoy being able to donate art to charities and companies that hold such great events. Check out their facebook page for more info.

8.22.09 - Brittany Gould

Sarah and I FINALLY got ourselves a piece by one of our favorite Denver artists, Brittany Gould. We have been admiring her work for a while now and just had to get this piece (limited to 6) that was hanging at the CMYK+RGB party last night at the Space Gallery. It is a front and back print, roughly 15" x 20" with die cut pattern through parts of the image. I would still love to get this piece that we saw at a group show last year if its still available. So good.

8.16.09 - 6 Months

Its been 6 months today since I stopped smoking cigarettes and my lungs and wallet are a lot happier.

Sarah and I went camping over the weekend near Conifer at Reynolds Ranch Park. Its a great little spot close to the city and just a half mile hike into the sites from the parking area. I would suggest bringing a cooler with wheels if you ever make it there.

8.5.09 - Around

There have been a few nice posts about the animal alphabet lately and now you can go buy the print at Real Baby in Denver if you're in the area.

7.7.09 - The Tab

I heard on the news today the Mayor of Los Angeles asking for donations to help fund the $3-4 million dollars it has cost for the Michael Jackson memorial at Staples Center today. I just want to know why the hell the Jackson family, or even the estate of Michael himself isn't paying for this? Didn't he own the rights to almost every Beatles song?

7.6.09 - It's Finally Over

wedding shot

Sarah and I got married two weeks ago and it was the most fantastic time with family and friends you could imagine. Our photographer for the night was Adam from a.h.p. photo who did an amazing job and his wife Imthiaz even showed up at the end to shoot a little. Definitely give them a call If you're in the market for a wedding photographer.

This is an illustration I did for an article in the newest Dallas, TX Visitor Guide. You can get your hands on one here.

6.16.09 - Wedding Week

Sarah and I are getting married this Saturday in Denver! Its been a long time coming now and I'm ready to get this party started. I still can't really believe she said yes. I'll be sure to post some pics when everything settles down and we get back from Aspen.

I got a couple new prints up at my etsy shop including the alphabet print. Its printed on some nice 10pt. cover stock and looks killer in any room. Go check it out!

5.11.09 - Leather Jacket

gap road camping

Me and a couple friends went camping on Saturday off Gap Road in Golden Gate Canyon Park for the night while Sarah had her bachelorette party with some friends. She was cursing alcohol in between naps all day on Sunday. It ended up snowing during the night a couple inches which made it pretty damp and cold but the new tent held up great and we got some really nice shots the next morning on the drive out that I'll post a little later. We had a couple neighbors about 30 yards away and one of the guys in the group had a killer leather jacket on, slicked hair and one of the smallest tents I've ever seen. It looked like it only went up to his knee when he would stand next to it and the other guy in the group was riding around on one of those miniature scooters all night. A good time for sure.

I do have to say that I haven't smoked a cigarette in 86 days and out camping was one of the toughest times I've had so far. I almost started smoking the pine cones.

ad art website

I just came across the website Ad Art the other day and really dig it. It's a download for Firefox and when installed it blocks ads from the website you are visiting and replaces them with contemporary art images that are curated into shows and shown every two weeks. The Current show is The Imagined Archive by Jon Garlick.

5.6.09 - The Alphabet in Color

animal alphabet in color

The animal alphabet is all colored up and printed. I'd like to get the print in some shops and maybe even turn them into some flash cards or wood blocks at some point. The print size is 11" x 14".

5.3.09 - The Alphabet

alphabet

I'm heading back to Chicago in a couple of weeks for my bachelor party and wanted to bring my niece, Grace something since I haven't seen her since Thanksgiving. I did an animal alphabet chart for her on 9"x13" watercolor paper and plan on doing some digital coloring and sell prints of it in the next week or two. I'll be sure to mention when they are available to buy.

instapaper

I came across Instapaper last week and have been using it quite a bit. It's a great little book marking site that lets me save some longer articles while I'm at work to read when I get back home. Also, I want to mention my friend Tyler's bootleg site of mostly live music called Doom and Gloom from the Tomb. Lots of good stuff from Dylan, Television and Neil Young.

4.24.09 - Vegetable Art

vegetable art photo

I've always been a fan of Van Gogh and thought this rendition of his self portrait by vegetable artist, Ju Duoqi was pretty great.

4.15.09 - Wolf and Pig

This stop motion by Takeuchi Taijin is pretty fantastic. I'm especially digging the walk down the stairs and the sink pool.

4.14.09 - Mustachio

Mustache Necklace

This isn't a piece that Sarah made, but I'm definitely considering getting the mustache necklace for her as a wedding gift.

3.26.09 - Hot Butter

Psychedelic Experience Image

Above is a pen case I had custom made with the red tie design my characters all wear. I think it turned out great and it was done by the wonderful Hot Butter. Go check out her great pouches and buy something while you're there.

doodle

Good little article about doodling on on NPR. The above image was done by Barack Obama during National Doodle Day which apparently is on February 27...just missed it but I'm sure I was drawing something that day. Did you know "Ronald Reagan drew pictures of cowboys, horses and hearts crossed with arrows." Fascinating.

3.20.09 - The Psychedelic Experience

Psychedelic Experience Image

The Denver Art Museum will be showing a collection of over 300 rock posters from the late 60's to early 70's starting tomorrow. The typography alone from the era was pretty fantastic and I'll be checking it all out on Sunday. Check it out if you're in the area.

"Take a trip to the psychedelic era through 300 posters and the music, art, and culture that inspired their experimental design. The Psychedelic Experience includes works by the psychedelic poster movement’s major contributors, plus video, music, and activities that will transport you to Haight-Ashbury."

3.18.09 - The Ego

I got a nice post on the Denver Egotist today. If you're in the creative field you should be checking this site out already and if you're not....start. Check out the post here

2.22.09 - Gel Transfers

This was my first and second attempt at the gel transfer process I tried out this weekend on a sheet of cardboard. I got interested in the gel transfer process after seeing some of Denver artist, Adam Reker's work the other day. I love the way he mixes the media's on his pieces. For the Saturday project I used a page from the Onion newspaper and a printout of one of my drawings for the first one and a dot pattern printout with the same octopus tennis player in the second. There is a little bit of marker on them and I outlined the transfer with ink after I pulled it off the cardboard. It's a process I need a bit more practice with but I'm really liking the results so far.

2.11.09 - Dinner for two

I really, really, really wish that Sarah and I would have known about this earlier. We probably would have taken a private jet just for the night. The Love Castle?!

"Make your Valentine's day STEAMY! Take your Valentine to White Castle on Wednesday, February 14 between 5 and 8 p.m. and enjoy hostess seating, candlelit dining and your own server. Reservations are required, so check the list below for participating Castles near you!

Special this year, you can also treat your honey to a romantic White Castle dinner in your home! Cupid's Crave Kits include eight cheeseburgers, one sack of fries, two regular soft drinks, coupons and keepsake items to heat up your homespun romance. Now, ain't that sweet?"

This is how much I enjoy the White Castle menu. I call it the Executive.

I made this watercolor of different types of potatoes and a matching set of clay sculptures for a show coming up in February at the Other Side Arts in Denver. You can get more info on the show here.

1.12.09 - Design and Letterpress

A nice little video of Mike Burton letter pressing a poster.

1.4.09 - Sketches

I've added a few new images to the sketchbook that I'm hoping to update on a regular basis from now on. I got my hands on some scrap pieces of vinyl and have been experimenting with some of it. I need more!
